STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: A youth was murdered in Udhampur in broad-day light on Thursday over land dispute, however police has arrested four accused involved in the crime. As per the details, 24 years old Rahul Bhagat, son of Subash Chander of village Dandyal was murdered by a group of miscreants over a land dispute. As the news of murder spread, the residents of village Dandyal locality staged protest against police by placing body of the deceased on Dhar Road. On receiving the report of murder, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Addl SP and Tehsildar Udhampur rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but to no avail. Protestors raised slogans against the police department and increasing land mafia in Udhampur. They alleged that youth was murdered at around 11: 00 AM and despite intimatation, the police reached the spot after more than two hours. Protesters lifted the Dharna after assurance by the officers to take swift action. Police handed over the body of deceased to family members after autopsy to perform last rites and registered a case vide FIR No. 281/2020 under sections 452, 323, 427, 504 and 506 IPC. “After investigation, police nabbed four accused in the case including Rakesh Kumar Guda and Sunil Kumar Guda, both sons of Prem Nath, resident of Ward No. 6, Udhampur; Ravinder Singh, son of Madan Singh and Madan Singh, son of Wazaroo Ram, resident of village Dhandyal”, Addl SP Rajinder Katoch informed media persons later in the evening during press briefing. It was stated that Rakesh Kumar Guda and Ravinder Singh were already booked vide FIR No. 298/2019 under Section 447,147, 504 and 506 RPC. Meanwhile, Councillor Darshan Lal alleged that land dispute was the main reason behind this murder as the family of deceased had already received number of threats from land mafia and revenue department field officials running land sale and purchase business. People alleged that revenue field officials have tendency to grab land of the innocent people by misusing their official position by luring land owners on assurance of holding Girdawari and mutation of land in lieu of piece of land. Sources revealed that land dispute matter is already under the purview of court and today victim family had gone to attend the date. “Miscreants taking the advantage of isolation of Rahul at home called him to come out and brutally attacked him with sharp edged weapon resulting into his death” sources said. Sources alleged that victim Rahul was threatened by some field officials of revenue department of dire consequences in case he refuses to support them in land grabbing.
