JAMMU: Traditionally patriotic to the core, border districts of Rajouri and Poonch are undergoing fast and alarming transformation of late. Showing praiseworthy calm and composure in nineties and better part of the next decade despite provocations from radicalised forces unleashed from across the Line of Control and patronised by elements inimical to peace and tranquility in the Valley, the areas close to forward line are getting polluted and infected with virus being spread from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri. This centre of learning is fast becoming den of terror supporters and India bashers.
Today, Kashmir based engineering students raised anti-India slogans in the evening inside the Campus and held the Vice Chancellor and Registrar as hostages inside the Administrative Block over arrest of third semester student of the Department of Computer Sciences for his alleged involvement in terror related incidents.
Identified as Israr Ahmed Bala (20), son of Mohammed Rafeeq Bala, resident of 103/4 Lal Bazar Srinagar, the student was picked up by the Special Operation Group of Srinagar police today. He is believed to be involved in grenade throwing incidents and his call details are being scanned to find out his terror links.
Israr has reportedly provided logistics support to grenade throwers. On many occasions he had reportedly transported the over ground workers of Pak based terror outfits from one place to another.
This is not an isolated case of mushrooming of terror sleeper cells in BGSBU campus, earlier, in August 2017, a final year student from Srinagar abruptly left the campus and joined the ranks of terrorist outfit. However, after joining terror ranks, he was gunned down by the security forces.
The student was identified as Mohammad Eisa Fazli, a resident of Shadab Colony near Soura in the outskirts of Srinagar. He had initially gone missing from his hostel room in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri. Two days later a picture of him holding the rifle was uploaded on Facebook announcing that he had joined a terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, headed by Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Zakir Musa. Earlier, he had joined B Tech (IT) course in the BGSBU in 2014. The University Campus witnessed night long protests, with students raising anti-India slogans and offering Nimaze Gaybana for the assassinated Eisa Fazli along with two terrorists in Srinagar on March 12, 2018.
On November 22, 2017, two students were booked for showing disrespect to National Anthem by not standing and taking selfies instead in the presence of the then Governor NN Vohra but police is yet to proceed in the matter due to weak police leadership then.
The chilling and distressing developments in the campus should not be seen in isolation. The university, established after the name of revered Sufi saint, respected by all segments of society, irrespective of religion and caste, has been hogging headlines for very worrying reasons. It is becoming hotbed of anti-national activities and a centre of indoctrination to radicalise youth.
What has gone wrong with BGSB University, led by a senior police officer as its founding Vice Chancellor, Masood Choudhry, son of soil? How could this institution turn out to be a focal point for spreading anti-India sentiment in the border belt? Ironically, brother of the founding Vice Chancellor, a sitting MLA from Mendhar, Javed Rana too is in news, not for very healthy reasons. His recent protest rally in support of Article 35A turned out to be a forum of anti-India sloganeering. The police had to register an FIR on the charges of sedition. Javed Rana’s latest salvo has been choicest invectives against police in a party workers meeting. The loose cannon, as he is known in the political circles, Javed Rana put his foot in mouth this time as well by belittling Jammu and Kashmir Policemen as ‘traitors and Dalals, ‘ thieves (Chor) and disloyal (namak haram)”. Has the growing diatribe of a sitting MLA and, of course, a former minister of PDP, anything to do with growing unrest in the region in general and BGSBU in particular?
