By slashing membership fee in Kashmir Golf Course, Governor Satya Pal Malik has initiated a healthy discourse in Jammu region, with people demanding similar gesture here as well. Sports is area and region neutral and hence there is no room for denial or discrimination. Before taking such a decision, those at the helm would have done justice to their advisory role by adopting uniformity in all the golf courses across the State, run by the government or its allied institutions. The growing demand about fee slash in Jammu reflects deep love of the people for sports. The Governor must consider the demand passionately and do justice with Jammu as well. That is what the people are expecting from him.
Sarpanch Arun Sharma, Provincial President, All J&K Panchayat Conference said that slashing the membership fee of Kashmir Golf Course has brought a ray of hope in the youth of Kashmir Valley and given them the opportunity to put in their energy in right direction. He said that Governor Malik’s move has added one more feather to his cap. “There is dire need of people like Governor Malik who are working in the direction to make J&K a welfare State. Earlier, the politicians of Kashmir Valley had looted the wealth of J&K by all means and never cared about the progress and development of the State. Promoting sportsmanship among the youth by slashing the membership fee of Golf Course is a welcome step and will give benefit to the people in the long run”, he maintained. He said the Panchayat Conference has full faith in the administration working under the stewardship of Governor Satya Pal Malik and it is hopeful that Governor Malik will slash the membership fee of Jammu Golf Course. He also appreciated Governor Malik for his crusade against corruption and the corrupt political leaders of J&K who have looted the funds meant for development of the State.
Advocate Himanshu Gupta feels aghast over continuous neglect of Jammu region, saying the people had expected course correction under the Governor’s Rule. “People of Jammu region are already facing discrimination for the past seven decades and now the ball is in the court of Governor Malik. People have high hopes from him. He should immediately slash the membership fee of Jammu Golf Course in line with Kashmir Golf Course. Till date, golf is considered a sport of rich people. But after slashing the membership fee of Kashmir Golf Course, Governor Malik has opened various avenues for people of the Valley,” he said and added, “I hope that Governor Malik, who is known for his bold decisions, should immediately reduce the membership fee to help the youth from getting inflicted by the evils of society like drugs, etc.”
Dr Rahul Sharma said Governor Malik has taken a right step and hoped that he will soon reduce the membership fee of Jammu Golf Course which is being used by elite class, bureaucrats and the wealthy politicians as of now. “Such decisions will also have impact on the employees retired from various government departments as well as the youth and sports lovers”, he said and added, “The government has created facilities for people belonging to all classes and Jammu Golf Course is also one of these. Government should not discriminate and deprive common people and should fix fee of Jammu Golf Course on the analogy of Srinagar Golf Course”, he said and requested the Governor Malik to open more avenues for the people of the State for ensuring peace and prosperity.
Vikas Gandotra, Entrepreneur said, “Making the golf affordable for the commoners is highly appreciable because it is likely to become a craze for the misguided youths also. This being a prestigious game does attract the interest of many people but due to its heavy cost the youths were discouraged earlier. The Governor perhaps noticed this urge among the young generation and slashed its fee in Kashmir and allowed its easy approach. “Besides youths, the game would indeed attract the elderly people retiring from lower posts and having sufficient time to contribute in this game. It would be in the interest of promoting this game if golf kits are also made available to the commoners at reduced rates”, he added.
Rajni Bala, Corporator Ward No 60, Jammu, welcomed the decision taken by Governor Satya Pal Malik for slashing the membership fee of Kashmir Golf Course. She asked the Governor that the same decision should also be implemented in Jammu. She apprised the Governor that Jammu region has become the victim of Kashmir-based political parties which lead the State for the last seventy years. She urged Governor Malik to create history by reducing the membership fee of Jammu Golf Course and give Jammu an unexpected gift which according to her will be remembered for the next so many years. She also expressed resentment against the previous regime for not showing its serious concern towards such issues and for discrimination with people of Jammu region.
Sugandh Sharma, a research scholar said if the Jammu Golf Course will become affordable to all, it will become one of the favourite destinations of tourists in the State. “Malik’s decision to make this game available for everyone at Kashmir Golf Club is an appreciable step. The people of Jammu region also deserve the same and the Governor should immediately announce fee cut for Jammu Golf Course. Governor has earlier taken various vital decisions for the welfare of common masses and making Jammu Golf Course affordable for all will woo more tourists and shall prove to be historic step in boosting the economy of the Jammu region”, she said and appealed the Governor to take stock of constructing the stadiums at district level to channelise the energy of youth in the right direction.
