STATE TIMES NEWSSrinagar: Two unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district on Tuesday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Waghama in Anantnag district in south Kashmir this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area, a police official said. He said the search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated. Two terrorists have been killed in the encounter so far, the official said, adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists was being ascertained. This is second encounter in Anantnag district in as many days. Three terrorists were killed in the gun battle with security forces at Khulchohar area of the district on Monday. A police spokesperson said the identification and affiliation of the killed terrorists is being ascertained. IGP Kashmir said that both the killed terrorists along with terrorist Zahid were involved in martyrdom of a policeman last year and martyrdom of two CRPF personnel and killing one minor boy recently. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes. The bodies of the killed terrorists were sent to Handwara for their last rites after conducting medico-legal formalities including collection of their DNA. IGP Kashmir appreciated JKP and SFs for exercising utmost restraint, thereby ensured a clean operation with no collateral damage. In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.
