SRINAGAR: Two unidentified terrorists were on Tuesday killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, an Army official said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Bomai area of Sopore town this morning following information about presence of terrorists in the area, he said.
The official said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire on security forces.
“In retaliatory action, two terrorists have been killed so far,” the official said, adding that search operation was underway.
“Later one of the killed terrorists was identified as Abdul Majeed Mir alias Sameer, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, resident of Tujar-Sharief Bomai, Sopore while the identity of another terrorist is still being ascertained, police said adding that they were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT.
They were also found involved in the killings of Arif Maqbool Sofi, resident of Wahipora Handwara, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, resident of Harwan and Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Harwan Sopore.
Meanwhile, a CRPF jawan, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was reported missing from his camp, police said. Constable Munish Kumar, posted at 117 Battalion, went missing from his camp at Wazir Bagh in Srinagar this morning, a police official said.
