UDHAMPUR: Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur Rayees Mohammad Bhat on Tuesday attached SHO Udhampur Vijay Singh Choudhary to District Police Lines (DPL) and suspended four cops after two narco smugglers, caught after seizure of heroin from their possession, and a thief managed to flee from Police Custody at Udhampur Police Station.
On the intervening night of September 10-11, two narcotic smugglers, namely Iftikhar Ali, son of Muzzafar Din, resident of Kotli Bain, Chopra Shop Udhampur and Parvinder Singh alias Pammu, son of Rattan Singh resident of Talab Salain Udhampur, arrested in NDPS cases vide FIR (448/18) and 462/18 respectively and a thief namely Mohammad Zahid, detained recently, fled from Police Station Udhampur after crossing the boundary wall at about 1:00 AM due to negligence of cops deployed at lock-up and sentry on gate duty.
Both the drug peddlers were locked in the cell while Zahid was outside the cell. He managed to lay hands on the keys of lock-up and the trio escaped, giving a slip to the police. Guard sentry and other staffers were asleep when trio manage to flee.
Police has launched manhunt to trace out the accused. It is being suspected that they might have escaped outside the State.
