Terrorist killed in Pulwama encounter
STATE TIMES NEWSSrinagar: Unidentified terrorists shot dead an advocate in Hawal area of Srinagar on Thursday, police said.The ultras fired upon advocate Babar Qadri at his Hawal residence around 6.25 PM from close range before fleeing the spot, a police official said.Qadri, in his early 40s, was rushed to the SKIMS hospital, where doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival’, according to the official.The advocate, who used to appear on TV debates and write opinion pages for local newspapers, was not liked by separatist circles.Three days ago, he had tweeted a screenshot and urged the police in Jammu to register an FIR against a Facebook user for spreading “wrong campaign” against him.“I urge the state Police administration to register FIR against this Shah Nazir who has spread wrong campaign that I work for agencies. This untrue statement can lead to threat to my life, Qadri had written in his last tweet.The advocate becomes second political or social activist to be shot dead by terrorists in the past 24 hours.Bhupinder Singh, a member of the block development council in Khag area of Budgam district, was shot dead by terrorists at his ancestral village Dalwash on Wednesday night.In another terror related incident, a CRPF officer was martyred by terrorists in Budgam district, police said.Terrorists shot at and injured the Assistant Sub Inspector of the CRPF of 117 battalion at Kaisermulla in Budgam district, a police official said.He said the terrorists also decamped with the service weapon, an AK assault rifle, of ASI N C Badoley.Badoley succumbed to injuries at the Army’s 92 base hospital at Badami Bagh here, the official said.He said the area has been cordoned off and a manhunt launched for the terrorists.Meanwhile, an unidentified terrorist was killed an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district, police said.An encounter broke out at Maghama in Tral area of the district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, a police officer said.He said one terrorist was killed while the operation is still in progress.The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist is being ascertained, he added.As per the police records the killed terrorist has a long history of criminal involvement as in April 2019 he was involved in grenade lobbing on Police Station Awantipora for which case vide FIR No. 54/2019 under relevant sections of law and 7/27 A.Act stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and the subject was arrested and subsequently sent to Kot Balwal Jail Jammu. Earlier in 2016 he was involved in stone pelting/arson case of Police Station Awantipora FIR No. 126/2016 under relevant sections of law stands chargesheeted in the Court of law.After his release in April 2020, Irfan-ul-Haq was secretly involved in terror activities which include Al-Badr related recruitment in Awantipora and Tral areas. He was an important motivator and influenced young minds for joining terror ranks in Awantipora/Tral areas.Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead body of the killed terrorist shall be sent to Handwara for burial after completion of all medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorist shall be allowed to participate in the last rites at Handwara, a police spokesperson said.Incriminating materials including arms, ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes.In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
