State Times NewsJAMMU: To commemorate 21st anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a number of political and social organisations paid rich tributes to martyrs, who sacrificed their lives while defending the nation during Kargil War in 1999 on Sunday, amidst following social distancing and other advisories issued by the Administration.
Pertinent to mention here that on July 26, 1999, Indian Armed Forces had won one of the fiercest battles in ‘Operation Vijay’ with Pakistan in Kargil and since then the day is being celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas every year. On 21st anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur paid rich tribute to martyrs of Kargil in a wreath-laying ceremony at War Memorial Stupa, Skyatsags. Speaking on the occasion, Mathur said, “This day reminds us of the grit, valour and dedication of Kargil war warriors who fought till their last breathe to defend the motherland.
I salute the indomitable courage and innumerable sacrifices of Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation amidst challenging situations.” On the occasion, the LG Ladakh honoured 50 Veer-Naris (war widows) with a token of appreciation. The CEC LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal along with a number of political and religious heads, war veterans and ex-servicemen were also present on the occasion. BJP Jammu East Mandal saluted brave martyrs of 1999 Kargil War on 21st anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. On the occasion, J&K BJP Vice President Yudhvir Sethi along with Corporator Anil Masoom, President East Mandal Parveen Kerni and Hari Om Sharma paid tributes to gallant martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Floral tributes were paid to martyrs and candles were lit in their honour besides observing two-minute silence.
Speaking on the occasion, Sethi said that on Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after success of Operation Vijay on July 26, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been illegally seized by Pakistani intruders. People of the nation would remained indebted to all those who served the country during Operation Vijay, he added. Parveen Kerni, Mandal President and Hari Om Sharma, BJP leader, while paying tributes, said that Indian Army has always safeguarded the nation from alien forces and made us proud every time. Others present on the occasion included Pawan Sharma, Arun Sethi, Sudhir Anand, Vipin Sharma, Suresh Bharti, Vishal Kohli, Asif Gill, Vipul Sharma, Sharda Kumari, Ashwani Charak, Sahil Mehra, Tarun Tak, Parul Mehra and Parveen Kumar. Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta paid rich tributes to brave soldiers. Kavinder Gupta, said that one such soldier from Jammu, Udaymaan Singh made supreme sacrifice while giving befitting reply to enemy in Kargil at an age of 19 years and earned pride for his village, parents and people of Jammu. His sacrifice has set an example for young generations and would inspire them to contribute in defending the country and be ready to make any sacrifice, he added. “Great and blessed are the mothers, who give birth to such warriors and feel pride in showering their dear ones in the service of motherland,” he added. Kavinder said that brave Dogras of Jammu have always been on front in times of crisis and displayed their valour when needed. Udaymaan Singh was a real Dogra hero, whose sacrifice cannot be described in words, he asserted. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address during ‘Mann ki Baat’, wherein he said that ‘people should not forget that our words and actions deeply impact the morale of soldiers and their families’, Kavinder said that Pakistan undertook the misadventure with sinister plans to capture India’s land besides diverting attention from ongoing internal conflicts, which was given a befitting reply by our brave hearts. To commemorate victory of Indian Army over Pakistan in 1999 at Kargil, the Freedom Fighters’ Memorial Association (FFMA) pay rich tributes to Kargil Martyrs on Vijay Diwas at Dogra Shaurya Sthal, Amphalla under the leadership of its Chairman Ved Gandotra and Vice Chairman, Rajiv Mahajan. Floral tributes were paid to martyrs and candles were lit in their honour. A two minutes silence was also observed. Speaking on the occasion, the members remembered all the martyrs and said that Indian Army is the best army in the world. Speaking on the occasion, R C Puri (Retd KAS), President FFMA said that Kargil war is regarded as a testimony of Indian Army’s grit and determination, in which the soldiers exhibited dauntless courage, resilience, valour and fought against all odds in bone chilling temperature of high altitude mountains in Kargil. While paying tributes to Kargil heroes, Th Karnail Chand, General Secretary FFMA said that during Kargil war, courageous soldiers of India ensured that the borders remained protected and gave an apt reaction to those who tried to disturb peace of the nation. Pritam Sharma, Vice President FFMA threw light on the supreme valour shown by the Indian Army-men. He said that the Indian Army is capable of thwarting any such act by any hostile forces at any hour, so enemy nations must shun their misadventures. Others present on the occasion included Rajinder Singh, Gajan Singh Khalsa, H S Billoria, Brig Mehra, Gaurav, Sukhminder Singh Maini, R R Raina, Prabhat Kapahi and Ravinder Mittal. To commemorate the victory of Indian Army over Pakistan in 1999 at Kargil, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) paid rich tributes to Kargil martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas at New Rehari office under leadership of UDA Convener Manish Sahani. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs and candles were lit in their honour. A two minutes silence was also observed. Speaking on the occasion, the members remembered all martyrs and nation shall always remain indebted to them for their sacrifices. Rajiv Mahajan Chief Spokesperson of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) saluted the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the beloved nation. “Kargil Diwas reminds us of valour and sacrifices of Indian armed forces. The Indian army along with Indian Air Force, fought bravely during Kargil war of 1999 and got back its posts at icy mountains of Kargil. Indian Army has always safeguarded the nation from alien forces and made us proud every time with their work and sacrifices. Kargil war is one such incident which cannot be forgotten,” he added. “I salute Army with for being always there in every difficult situation,” he said adding that Indian Army is always ready to deal with any eventuality in the country, may it be fighting terrorism, rescuing people from natural calamities, countering terror attacks etc. Others who paid tributes to martyrs included Lt Gen (Retd) Pradeep Singh Mehta Principal Advisor, IG (Retd) Sudhir Dogra General Secretary, Co- Conveners Col (Retd) S S Pathania, Commander (Retd) Bhushan Devan, Col (Retd) P S Jamwal, (Retd DC) Vijay Sharma, (Retd DC) M L Sharma, V K Gupta (Retd SE), R K Khajuria (Retd ETO), Krishan Manhas, Satish Poonshi, Kulbir Singh Slathia, Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Gajan Singh Khajuria, Rajinder Gupta, Rajeev Luthra, Prem Sharma, Vivek Wazir, Rakesh Badyal, Pawan Gupta, Sanjay Jandyal, Varnider Singh Billawria, Yash Khajuria, Jaswinder Singh (Kuku), Sanjeev Sharma, Dr Karan Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rajinder Gupta (Bittu) and Ravi Tickoo. Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) remembered Kargil heroes on occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas and paid rich tributes to martyrs. In this regard, a programme was organised amidst maintaining social distancing and observing other advisories issued by the administration to contain corona. Speaking on the occasion, the JPPF leaders said that in 1999, when Pakistan, through deceitful ways captured few post of India at Kargil, the brave soldiers of Indian army fought a war with great sprit under severe difficult situations and won it bravely. It was a great achievement of Indian Army who despite of the adverse situations and bone chilling temperature of hills, performed extremely well and set an example in front of various countries that we are ready to fight under any condition for the motherland, they added. Further all the members of forum paid rich tributes to soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while securing boundaries of the country. Eminent members present on the occasion included Pavitar Singh, M S Katoch, Avinash Bhatia, Surender Veer, Pritam Sharma, Gurmit Singh, Resham Singh and Balwan Singh. Forum for Awareness of National Security, Jammu and Kashmir organised a webinar today to pay tributes to Martyrs of Indian Armed forces who sacrifice their lives for the mother land and to commemorate the victory of the armed forces on the Occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas. Prominent speakers who spoke in the webinar were Indresh Kumar, Member, National Executive Committee RSS, Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister, J&K, Air Marshal (Retd.) Dr. R.C Bajpai, Pankaj Das, Senior Journalist from Nepal, Maj. Gen. (Retd) S.K Sharma and Brig. (Retd) Dr. Vijay Sagar Dheman. While addressing the participants, Indresh Kumar stressed for freedom of Himalayas from China and added that all Indians must boycott Chinese products. Indresh also emphasized the need to start and continue various initiatives to expose the expansionist mindset of China besides lauding the diplomatic victories of India which has helped to isolate China in the entire world. He stressed the need of calling the South China Sea as Malay Sagar and Mount Everest as Sagar Matha. He concluded his speech by giving glowing tributes to martyrs who scarified their lives for the motherland. Dr. Nirmal Singh threw light on the achievements of Union Government in the field of diplomacy especially the breakthroughs whereby both China and Pakistan have been sidelined. Brig Dheman spoke extensively about the tactical preparedness of India against China and its challenges. Pankaj Das, spoke about Indo Nepal relations and the interference of China in the politics of Nepal, the effort of China to somehow end the religious oneness of India and Nepal and the acting of Nepalese Government as puppets in hands of Beijing. Dr Bajpai spoke about the Kargil War and the role Indian Armed forces specially the Indian Airforce in defeating the Pakistan army. Welcome address was given by Maj. Gen. Sharma and the proceedings of the webinar were conducted by Prem Sadotra, General Secretary of the Forum. Prof. K.L Bhatia, Dr. Sudershan Kumar, former DG, DRDO, Golak Bihari Rai, Jasbir Singh, Reshma Singh, V.S Sambyal, former DIG, J&K Police, Ravinder Singh, Retd. SSP, Dinesh Gupta, Gourav Jamwal, Vikas Pankaj and Ramneek also attended the webinar.
