STATE TIMES NEWS REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) organised a training programme on commercial agriculture on Thursday at Malad village of Pouni block in Reasi district. Large number of farmers of the area participated in the programme which was organised under the guidance of Director Extension and Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Dr.K S Risam. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme gave a detail view on commercial agriculture and said the farmers that they should divert themselves from the subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture so that their income can be enhanced. He gave the description of agri-entrepreneurship and said that farmers should take the opportunities to become the agri-entrepreneurs. He educated the farmers on scientific cultivation of Rabi season crops. He informed the farmers that they should grow the cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, marigold, mushroom, beekeeping, aromatic and medicinal plants etc. at commercial level. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi gave technical guidelines on commercial horticulture and guided farmers on value addition in fruits and vegetables. He further added that hilly areas have immense potential in organic fruits and vegetables and farmers can fetch more money by growing the organic fruits and vegetables of commercial level.
