UDHAMPUR: Civil Defence Organisation Udhampur organised an inter college symposium on ‘Role of youth in curbing drugs menace’ in the premises of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur on Tuesday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur-Reasi Range, Surinder Gupta was the Chief Guest while Additional SP, M.L Kaith was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
As many as ten participants drawn from different colleges of the district participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the vital issue.
Manisha Sharma of Bharatiya College of Education was declared best speaker while Ankit Sharma also of the same college and Anita Devi of Shivalik College of Education secured second and third positions respectively. The cash prizes of worth Rs. 2,000, 1,500 and 1,000 were given to the first three winners respectively while consolation prizes were also given to other participants of the contest.
Appreciating the efforts of organising agency of the symposium, the DIG exhorted upon the participants to spread awareness about the menace of drugs starting even from their home and society. He hoped that the efforts of the Civil Defence involved in holding such events would go a long way in spreading awareness about ill effects of drug abuse among the general masses also.
Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Bodh Raj gave a detailed account of activities being carried out by the organisation in welfare of public. He thanked the principal of host college for their cooperation in holding such a meaningful event.
Principal, Shivalik College of Education presented vote of thanks while Dy SP Area Commander Home Guard, Tajinder Singh, senior Vice President Volley Ball Association, J and K, Raj Guru and Retd. Dy SP O. P Sharma acted as judges during the contest.
