Dear Editor,If one goes by Power Development Department (PDD) norms there should not be any power cut. This is just opposite to the ground level situation, as domestic power supply is marred load shedding which has become the norm.A look in outskirt will expose the electricity utilization. One can find that most of the street lights remain on during the day-time, while remain off during nights. The street lights installed in Parks remain on throughout the day as no one is bothered about it.Neither the authorities concerned nor the residents of the area are concerned about it.Many morning and evening walkers shared that at a time, when J&K is passing through a serious power crisis, such callousness on part of the concerned authorities speaks volumes of concern and responsibility duty.In the present scenario when the power shortage has nearly brought the life of people in most of the areas, to a halt, such consumptive flouting of norms needs to be checked immediately. Moreover, it is the duty of everyone to share responsibility and keep a check on it. Many times, I have noticed that street lights remain glowing during day time and no one pays attention towards them. I have complained many times to the concerned authority about this but all in vain.We cannot switch off the lights due to open wiring, which can result in shock and this is the reason residents hesitate to switch off the lights. The need of the hour is a automatic system which can switch off the lights when not required.I request to the concerned to pay attention towards the issue so that we can save electricity.Nirmal Magotra,Sainik Colony.
