At the time when people of the nation irrespective of their caste, colour or creed or for that matter different political backgrounds are showcasing exemplary togetherness to get rid of the highly contagious virus of contemporary times i.e. corona which has wreaked havoc across the world with thousands of people losing the battle of life on daily basis there comes a customary but hurting criticism by none other than Rahul Gandhi, one of the leaders of the main opposition party-Congress in India that ‘Lockdown has failed’. It seems ludicrous that when entire nation is doing its bit by whatever is possible and the government is working tirelessly by gathering information, technology and support from within and outside the country to combat the ‘lethal’ and unpredictable COVID-19, the opposition parties are creating hurdles and making mockery of the dispensation of the time. On one side, the nation is passing through a critical phase with government and majority of people confronting the virus and on the other, opposition is taking sadistic pleasure by doing petty politics. This attitude whether from ruling party or the opposition is in no way justified and showing such sadistic tendencies is highly unfortunate for the people of the nation who had shown extraordinary grit and daring spirit in cooperating with concerned authorities wherever and whenever such a demand was raised. Rahul, however, in his interaction during a presser rightly admitted that it shall be inappropriate for him to comment on Modi’s performance. Negating outrightly the government’s claim of effectiveness of containing the transmission of coronavirus by the timely implementation lockdown in March and its consecutive extensions, Rahul’s anticipation that second wave of the contagion will be more damaging under present scenario is nothing but simple exaggeration to sting the government and its functionaries to obey the Dharma of Opposition. What the time demands from the representatives of people of India at this moment is extreme seriousness and a collective approach to bail out all of them from this unprecedented and capricious crisis but what is seen is exactly opposite with political outfits never leaving a chance to downplay their opponents and play dirty politics leaving the poor people lurching for healthcare, food and other basic amenities.
