Dear Editor,Since it is a time of pandemic, maintaining a good diet becomes very important and that too during this very period when weather is changing. So, here Navratri diet comes into the picture. If taken properly, the Navratri diet helps cleansing the body and preparing it for the seasonal changes. Here’s a quick guide on how to stay away from acidity, indigestion, lack of energy and drowsiness during fasting. Being a doctor, I would like to share some tips to stay fit during Navratri. The very first thing is don’t plan your day without water. Keep yourself hydrated with fluids like coconut water, buttermilk, green tea, lemon water other than just plain water. The whole idea of Navratri diet is, in fact, a good detox routine, only if you follow it in right way and don’t be too lenient with what you gorge on.Only rock salt should be used during Navratri, as it is not just beneficial for your blood pressure but also helps in absorption of minerals better than common salt. Hence, the quantity should be appropriate. Just because you’re on a fast, doesn’t mean you have the right to stuff yourself with fried fast food. Don’t overeat. Don’t go overboard with snacks. Rather opt for roasted, boiled and baked meals to help you balance the effect of fried snacks. Considering the fact that Kuttu atta is a combination of carbohydrates and proteins, having Kuttu during this time is a good idea. While your lunch could be a heavy one, the dinner should be kept light. While rituals can be a binding, it should never be a hindrance to health. Going empty stomach for long can harm the body to a large extent. First, it creates acidity in a person and makes it difficult to digest food. Second, staying empty stomach for too long can cause a tendency to vomit, and leads to nausea and headache. When fasting, make sure you don’t overwork. If you have to be there at work, don’t stress a lot. Don’t stay hungry for long hours when you are at work. Take enough sleep and to relax, try some Yoga or meditation.Always keep some munching options with you so that you don’t starve for a long time. You can drink juices or tea to keep the energy level in check. Maintain good hygiene.By following these simple tips one can stay fit during Navratri and can stay safe from virus and infections.Dr Roshi Mahajan,Jammu.
