STATE TIMES NEWSBATOTE: Dr Nirmal Singh, Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, reviewed the functioning of Tourism Department, in Batote and Patnitop areas. During the meeting he listened to the grievances and suggestions put-up by the Sarpanchs, councillors and General Public regarding various issues of the functioning of the Tourism Department, specifically Patnitop Development Authority, regarding development of the entire area as a Tourist Hub. Speaker desired that PDA should come up with comprehensive plan regarding the various steps to be initiated along with the cost so that the matter is taken up at the highest level regarding issues like permissions for construction, Setting up of small Kiosks , providing horse riding facilities and other economic activities. He desired that PDA along with the Forest Department in consultation with local people should devise a mechanism so that the entire process is expedited without damaging the natural beauty of the area. He further desired that the various assets built by PDA/Tourism be maintained so that they are put to best possible utilisation. On being informed that PDA has miniscule budget to maintain or scale up assets, the Speaker assured that he shall take up the matter with higher ups for enhancing the budget of the Patnitop Development Authority, so that the development work could be undertaken and the tourist destinations could be made more attractive and the PDA is able to perform more productively. The Speaker desired that the water Sports Facilities to be taken up at the Baghliar Dam area to be made functional on which he was informed that the matter is being handled by Tourism Department and they are in the process of getting DPR made for it. He further observed that the training institute in the name of Shaheed Amar Nath Bhagat to be setup at the Baghliar Project area which was a decision taken, when he was DyCM (I/c Power Minister), has not been finalized yet, he also desired that the matter should be reviewed on urgent basis with PDD. He also desired that the PDC should spend part of its CSR on the people who have been most affected by the making Dam and Power Station Baghliar.
