State Times NewsJAMMU: The special security force rules have been redefined for the security of Lt. Governor in the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, giving vast power to the force personnel to seize and search any premises in the vicinity of the place to be visited by the LG. These new rules have been made in addition to the existing Special Security Forces Act of December 2018 , when the state of Jammu and Kashmir was under Governor’s rule . Nowadays the J&K is a Union Territory without Ladakh being its part. Ladakh is a separate UT and has a different LG. The new rules , according to a notification issued by the Home Department of J&K on Saturday said that the Lt. Governor would make the choice of the Director of the Special Force guarding him , and the force personnel would be of a specified age group of 18 to 40, and from 21 to 45 years. All the members of the force would be having height not less than 5 feet nine inches and their fitness level must be the best. The force would be drawn from the J&K Police. Each member of the force will be on deputation of three years. Significant part of new rules is that the force personnel would have powers; to restrain any person gaining access to the protected person , to search any place , person, vessel, draft, dwelling house, and baggage etc., essential for the security of protected person, to seize weapon of offence or article , which can be harmful to the security of the protected person, temporary confinement, not amounting to arrest and handing over to the police for action under law. The personnel would be armed with the weapon authorized by the Director for discharging of duties and protection of his own self. The force personnel can seek disclosure of identity of any person seeking access to close proximity limits, to approve or disapprove of the venue, to be visited by LG. The order further said that such other powers may be conferred on them by the government from time to time, to give effect to the provisions of the Act.
