Finally, after long-drawn-out era of wait and anxiety, Jammu City’s prestigious ropeway project has seen the light of the day. The much-awaited ropeway project envisioned to allure visitors and increase tourist footfall in the winter capital of the Union territory was launched by Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu on Monday bringing optimism among the Jammuites about Jammu getting more of similar promising tourist infrastructure in near future. As LG Murmu and his wife Smita Murmu took the first ride on the ropeway, people in Jammu had a sigh of relief that after so long someone has come who didn’t take them for a ride and has achieved what many of his successors cannot. This project is likely to give much desired fillip to tourism sector thus boosting the economy of the region and opening vistas of opportunities for the unemployed youth of Jammu as the endeavour is expected to woo lot more visitors to the site of ropeway opening avenues for engaging jobless meaningfully. The Monday’s launch has raised the hopes of Jammuites that soon other lingering projects related to tourism sector in Jammu will also be taken up and the region which has faced apathy and discrimination by the lopsided dispensations of the bygone era will get its due share in development process with people prospering with good fortune and fruitful opportunities. The 1.66 Km long cable car project comprising two phases starts from Bahu Fort and lands at Mahamaya Park in phase one. The second is from Mahamaya to Peer Kho over the Tawi river. In the days to come, this ropeway is likely to become top choice of tourists visiting city of temples and a stepping stone for changed scenario of tourism in Jammu Province.
