SRINAGAR: The contractual lecturers hired by Higher Education Department (HED) for colleges in Kashmir division are without wages from the last four months. This was stated by CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in a statement issued here on Wednesday.Despite serving the department for so many years, he said, they are deprived of their monthly wages, thus causing great inconvenience to this teaching community, who are working in various degree colleges across the valley.The Covid-19 lockdown has turned their financial position from “bad to worse” and has led them and their family close to starvation, Tarigami said adding that some of these lecturers are single bread owners in their families, however, the delay in their salaries had forced them to borrow the money from friends and relatives to manage their monthly family expenses, by which they are facing a lot of hardships.He urged upon the administration to release their wages without further delay.
