State Times NewsJAMMU: Former Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch. Vikram Randhawa on Thursday welcomed the decision of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to order constitution of a committee to examine issues pertaining to a scheme of Self-Help Groups of engineers.Pertinent to mention that an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on August 10, had ordered that “the practice of reserving a proportion of projects for SHGs of engineers is abolished forthwith” while doing rationalisation or reorganisation of the engineering staff.The decision was taken by the Administrative Council, headed by former Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, on August 4-a day before he resigned from the post.The order has rendered around 15,000 engineers across Jammu and Kashmir jobless and many representations were made to review the decision as around 5 lakh people were being affected indirectly.Randhawa said that the decision to review August 10 order of the government is a welcome move but urged upon the Lt Governor to direct the Committee headed by Advisor B.A Khan to submit report within a time frame.He said that the Committee constituted must take a positive decision so that the career of these engineers is saved.He said that many lives are dependent on these SHGs and need to be saved from starvation.He expressed hope that there would a positive report by the Committee keeping in view the unemployment scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and urged them to submit report as soon as possible.
