As India is moving in a sturdy manner with considerably better results than many developed countries as far as COVID-19 related facts and figures are concerned, there is another sensible step taken by the government during Lockdown Unlock-I Phase by meticulously mulling on precautions to be taken while reopening the restaurants and hotels across the nation so that corona contagion containment process does not get dented and the flattening of COVID-19 curve efforts may continue as earlier. After pondering all the pros and cons and chalking out proper layout the Union Health Ministry in a very wise manner has released set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for aforesaid establishments so that people once again relish food and have cozy stay in hotels without any fear of contracting lethal virus corona which since its entry in India has forced everybody to remain confined in homes and hearths with sanitizer dispensers in hands and masks covering faces. The aforesaid SOPs which by all means should be adhered in letter and spirit include directions like allowing only asymptomatic staff and guests inside the premises and proper management of guests. The aforesaid ministry has specifically advised staffers who are at higher risk including aged or those who are pregnant or have underlying medical conditions to preferably avoid front-line work requiring direct contact with the visitors. Again social distancing has been termed as key to contain the spread of infection and stressed has been laid on maintaining minimum distance while interactions as advised by the authorities on different occasions. If possible, separate entry and exits for patrons, staff and goods/supplies should be managed as this will also lessen the risk of spread of coronavirus. Besides, contactless mode of ordering and digital payments has also been asked to be promoted and preferred. As far as hotels are concerned, proper record of the guests’ travel history, medical condition, along with ID and self-declaration form is a prerequisite besides sanitization of their luggage and exclusive use of intercom/mobile phone for any kind of interaction. The good thing about the SOPs is that these have been conceptualized and confirmed after a thorough and insightful exercise and it seem that the same are foolproof if complied without any hanky-panky. Showing concern towards safety of children the advisory also restricted functioning of gaming arcades/ play areas. Now it can be anticipated that the aforesaid norms besides curtailment of the seating capacity to 50 per cent and use of disposable menus will serve the purpose and the countrymen or for that matter foreigners can once again enjoy the scrumptious food offered by restaurants in India and will also take pleasure in receiving hospitality by the well groomed hotel industry which is one among the best in the entire world.
