STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency, raised his voice to provide compensation to people and farmers for agricultural land beyond border fencing points. Jugal said that agricultural land of people residing at border areas near fencing, starting from Samba to Rajouri and Poonch, was the only source of livelihood for them. Earlier, they used to cultivate aforesaid land but due to security reasons, they are not being allowed to do farming on aforesaid land, thus rendering the same barren and uncultivated, he said. “Farmers living in border areas are now leading a miserable life with no proper source of income,” he said, adding that these border dwellers are brave people like Army personnel, who reside on borders and face bullets bravely in difficult times. Jugal urged the Central Government that adequate compensation should be provided to border farmers at the earliest, for their agricultural land beyond fencing points, so that they can lead their lives with dignity in border areas of the State.
