STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Asserting that teachers can be role models for the future generations, Deputy Commissioner, Sushma Chauhan, on Saturday exhorted upon the fraternity to ensure proper counseling of students dissuading them against the menace of drugs which ultimately takes them towards self destruction. “Since students are the most vulnerable target of social evils like drugs menace so teachers have to play a greater role with added zeal and devotion to save the posterity from being swayed by the self destructive habits”, she maintained. The DC was addressing at an interactive session organised by District Police Jammu for teacher community regarding measures and strategies to tackle drug menace in the society. Deputy Commissioner said that Education Department has a very important role to play in this noble cause as they are directly involved with the students and can voluntarily work to save the future of the nation. Senior Superintendent of Police, Tejinder Singh, Chief Education Officer Jammu, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, SDMs, In-charge Drug De-addiction Centre of Police Department, senior officers from Social Welfare, School Education Department, Police officials, Principals and teachers of different government schools besides civil society members were also present on the occasion. The DC also called for screening of the students and regular visits of officials of civil and police administration to the targeted schools for outcome based solutions. SSP shared his experience while dealing with the menace of drug addiction and drug peddling in the district. Local police officers urged the community members to identify the individuals from their neighbourhood who are habitual of substance abuse and seek the assistance of Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in helping them to regain their normal lives.
