JAMMU: Accepting the demand of protesting faculty and scholars and acting on the STATE TIMES’ report, the University of Jammu on Wednesday removed Prof Avatar Singh Jasrotia from the post of Head of Department, Department of Geology.
Senior faculty members, including Prof G M Bhat, Prof Pandita and Dr Yudhvir Singh along with scholars and students of Department of Geology were spearheading protest against the alleged highhanded and unjust attitude of the administration of Jammu University. Sources had told STATE TIMES that Prof Avatar Singh Jasrotia was acting like a pawn in the hands of Prof R K Ganjoo, who for the past two months was acting as Registrar. Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor Jammu University had also tried to convince the protesting faculty members but they (protesters) refused to give any further time to Jasrotia to continue as Head of Department of Geology. The senior professors were for the last two days demanding immediate removal of Prof Jasrotia as Head of the Department. This morning they had intensified their protest against the alleged highhanded and unjust attitude of the administration of Jammu University. This afternoon, hundreds of students assembled in front of the Office of Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu and raised slogans in support of their demands.
Late in the evening, soon after hearing about the removal of Prof Jasrotia from the Geology Department, a large number of students again assembled at JU campus to celebrate.
