STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The three days Jammu University Sports Fest-2019 commenced on Tuesday at the University Sports Stadium after it was declared open by the Chief Guest, Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu in the presence of large number of gathering of players, officials, students of the University and people from the civil society. After unfurling of the University Flag and declaration of the Sports Fest-2019 open by the Vice Chancellor, the University Campus was mesmerized with an impressive procession in which all the participants and officials of the Sports Fest as well as invited guests also took part. A spellbound performance was presented by the players of the Gatka teams under the guidance of Amarjit Singh, which was appreciated by all the guests and participants. In “Sports Fest – 2019”, under the banner of Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, various games like Dangal, kho-kho, volleyball, kabaddi, athletics, Gatka, yoga and boxing shall be played. The main idea to promote these games is to provide a platform to the rural/traditional games which could not be placed alongside other mainstream games due to lack of knowledge of game or lack of promotion. The participants in these games will be the semi-finalist teams of the Inter-Collegiate tournaments 2019-20 from the affiliated Colleges and P.G Departments of the University of Jammu. Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba-Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal welcome address and also briefed about the whole festival. He also informed about the following events especially “Dangal” which shall take place till October 24, 2019. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare-Guest of Honour applauded the students, Directorate, Coaches and staff for their active participation in the games which are going to be played during the Sports Fest-2019. He congratulated the participants and the Directorate for the organization of this event and advised the participants to actively participate in the Sports activities as it gives a way of life to live in the society. Prominent thise present on the occasion include Prof. Kulwant Singh-Controller of Examinations, Dr. Neeraj Sharma (Spl. Secy to the Vice Chancellor), Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas – Director, SHTM, Dr. Rashid Manhas, Dr. Vinay Thusoo, Media Advisor, Kuldeep Magotra, CEO VAJK, Vijay Magotra, General Secretray VAJK, Manmeet Singh, Chairman JKGA, Ravinder Singh, JKGA, Capt. S.R Dubey, Romesh Sharma, Ramesh Magotra, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, P.D Singh, Vinod Sharma, Dr. Noor ul Asrar Beg, Harinderpal Singh, Sanjeev Sharma, Sanjay Verma, Physical Directors of the various colleges, sportspersons and members from the civil society. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Komal Nagar, I/C Assistant Director, Sports and Physical Education.
