State Times NewsNEW DELHI: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed here on Tuesday that the process has been initiated for appointment of new Chief Information Commissioner of India.In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Dr Jitendra stated that the process of appointment of new Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners is on.The Minister further informed the House that the Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission had completed his term on 26th August, 2020, whereas one Information Commissioner is completing his tenure on 25th September, 2020. Government has initiated the process to fill up the vacancies in a timely manner by way of issuing advertisements to fill up the post of Chief Information Commissioner and the six posts of Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission. The reply further elaborated that a High level Search Committee follows the method of obtaining relevant information in respect of various candidates while scrutinising the applications and shortlisting the candidates for the post of Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission.In reply to another question, Dr Jitendra Singh informed the House that the functioning of RTI applications continued smoothly during the COVID pandemic and the Central Information Commission had taken necessary steps to facilitate hearing of second appeals/complaints through audio/video facility by intensive use of technology.The Minister also informed that in the Central Information Commission, a total number of 4,491 online requests had been processed since March 2020 upto 17th of September this year.
