JAMMU: Involved in luring dialysis patients from Government Medical College’s Super Specialty Hospital to a private nursing home, Dr Aman Gupta, who was caught red handed while practicing at a private nursing home in Jammu, had a sigh of relief as Dr Noor Ali, the head of inquiry panel on Tuesday refused to conduct further inquiry.Sources informed that Dr Noor Ali, in a communiqué to Principal GMC, has conveyed his inability to conduct a probe into the allegations against Dr Aman.Member Secretary of the panel Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy Medical Superintendent Super Specialty Hospital Jammu was earlier suspended following dereliction of duties that led to deaths of COVID patients due to oxygen shortage.
Now with the refusal of Dr Noor Ali to hold inquiry, the probe panel has become defunct with no conclusion and a doctor, paving way for the erring doctor to walk free.Dr Aman Gupta was on camera caught by STATE TIMES attending patients at a private nursing home under name and style of Bee Enn Nursing Home at Talab Tillo during the hospital hours on August 10.Soon after the expose, the GMC administration had ordered an inquiry comprising Dr Noor Ali, Head of Department (HoD) CTVS as Chairman, Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy Medical Superintendent SSH (now under suspension) as Member Secretary and Assistant Accounts Officer SSH as Member. The sources said that Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital Dr Arun Sharma, soon after the STATE TIMES expose on August 10, had advised Dr Aman to submit a leave application on the particular day, obviously as a cover up to his skipping of job at the GMC and to attend the patients in the private clinic. The alibi, however, didn’t work as HoD refused to sanction leave the next day as STATE TIMES exposed the nexus. In reference to the letter written by the inquiry committee head Dr Noor Ali, Dr Anil Sharma mentioned that his office received Dr Aman’s leave application on August 11. And, he had already apprised the Principal GMC as to how Dr Aman’s leave application could be sanctioned the next day.Having managed his attachment with the GMC, Dr Aman Gupta, an employee of the Department of Health Department, is actually supposed to be posted with the hospitals under the Health Department.Sources said that a few senior BJP leaders are forcing the GMC administration to save Dr Aman Gupta. In a bid to keep BJP leaders happy, the Principal GMC is reported to have asked the inquiry panel to go slow.Dr Aman, attached with the Nephrology Department, was allegedly found motivating patients to visit Bee Enn Hospital for dialysis. That is the reason he used to skip duty at SSH and go to the private nursing home during working hours.“The health department doctors attached with the GMC and its associated hospitals must be sent to peripheral hospitals where locals are suffering because of shortage of doctors”, said an anguished patient. Many of the rural hospitals are being run by pharmacists, paramedical staff and dental assistants while the doctors manage their attachments with the GMCs for their personal gains. As the GMC administration wanted to give time to Dr Aman to find out ways to save his skin, merely a three-member committee was constituted. “The GMC administration should have placed Dr Aman under suspension and ordered inquiry,” demanded Balvinder Singh RTI activist, adding Dr Aman tried hard to get his leave sanctioned fraudulently by using political pressure from ruling BJP quarters. However, Dr Anil Sharma HoD refused to sanction it as the leave application for August 10 was submitted on August 11 in his office.
