STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Police on Wednesday foiled the Secretariat Gherao of ABVP Jammu Mahanagar here. Scores of ABVP activists assembled near Kacchi Chawni area, move towards Civil Secretariat but heavy deployment of police foiled the protest march. The protesting ABVP activists were demanding rollback of semester system from Under-Graduate courses in J&K; initiating necessary measures to fulfill 50,000 jobs promise of the Government, filling of vacant posts in education department, framing laws for preventing commercialization and privatization of education, starting of AIIMS, changing name of SKUAST to Jammu Kashmir Agriculture University, declaring Dogri and Sanskrit as mandatory subjects, CBI inquiry on JKPSC appointments made during previous government’s regime, framing SIT on allocation of space to schools and colleges, etc. Highlighting 43 demands, the protesting activists said that ABVP has been raising demands of students from time to time and has also submitted a memorandum for the same but no action has been taken by the government in this regard. “This is the reason that ABVP has been forced to come on roads for highlighting cause of students”, they added. They said that the protests will continue until their demands are not met.
