JAMMU: The State Government on Friday constituted a State Level Advisory Committee in pursuance of Rule 16 of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
The aforesaid Committee is comprised of Administrative Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department as its Chairman and Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu/Kashmir as Convener besides Director, Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing Department, J&K; Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board; Commissioner, State Taxes Department; Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation/ Srinagar Municipal Corporation; one expert from local body (to be nominated by the Housing & Urban Development Department); one expert non-governmental involved in Waste Management (to be nominated by the Social Welfare Department); representatives of plastic association, drug manufacturers association, chemical manufacturers association; one expert from the field of industry (to be nominated by Industries and Commerce Department); expert from the field of academic institution (to be nominated by the School Education Department) and any other officer or expert as may be co-opted by the Chairman of the Committee (if required) as members of the Committee. The terms of reference of the State Level Advisory Committee will be to effectively monitor implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 and it shall meet once in six months.
The State Level Advisory Committee shall be serviced by the Housing & Urban Development Department.
