STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The daily-wagers of PHE Department on Monday threatened to ‘Gherao Civil Secretariat’ if their demands would not be fulfilled at the earliest. Led by Tanveer Hussain, President All J&K PHE ITI-TRAINED, CP and Land Donor Workers Association, a number of PHE workers assembled near the Exhibition Ground and raised slogans in support of their demands. Speaking on the occasion, Tanveer said that PHE daily-wagers from various districts of Jammu province shall Gherao the Civil Secretariat at Srinagar, if their pending salaries will not be released at the earliest. Tanveer alleged that all successive Governments, for last over 20 years, adopted callous attitude towards their genuine demands including regularisation of services and payment of pending wages etc. Previous Governments never fulfilled their commitment, keeping the fate of workers in lurch, he maintained. The workers, facing a lot of financial hardships to run their household besides taking proper care of their school-going children, time and again approached the Governments of the time and other concerned authorities but without any fruitful results despite fact that all essential services were being run by aggrieved workers with full devotion and dedication, said Tanveer. “We had great expectations from the Governor Satya Pal Malik, but it is unfortunate that the Governor’s administration has also ignored our plight as no positive step has been taken so far for mitigating our sufferings,” Tanveer said. The PHE workers are without living without wages for last over 52 months, which has badly affected their families, as wages are the only source of income for them, he added. Under the compelling circumstances, the protesters urged the Governor to release their pending wages at the earliest possible by implementing SRO-520. Others present on the occasion included Deepak Gupta (Vice President), Subash Chander (General Secretary), Manjeet Singh, Vijay Kumar, Jeevan Singh, Tilak Raj, Pawan Kumar, Pardeep Sharma, Dinesh Sharma, AItaf Hussain, Ravi Sharma, Gulam Nabi, Ishaq Hussain, Ganesh, Maqbool Hussain, Zulfkar Ahmed and Rajesh Sharma.
