STATE TIMES NEWSSAMBA: AICRP Weed Management, Division of Agronomy in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba organised Parthenium Awareness Camp at Calvary Mission High School, Samba on Wednesday under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu. On the occasion, Dr Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Samba was started the programme with the introduction of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Further, he explained that parthenium popularly known as congress grass or carrot weed is considered one of the most problematic weed of the world, it has now spread throughout the country including Jammu region. He also stressed about the harmful effects of parthenium and its control. Dr.B.R.Bazaya, Senior Scientist and Incharge, AICRP-Weed Management highlighted harmful effects of parthenium on crops, humans and animal health. He advised to general public including students, farmers, stakeholder to started vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium at block and district level. Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Scientist emphasised on cultural practices to mange this weed. Dr. R. Puniya Jr. Scientist, AICRP Weed Management explained about the physical and chemical control measures for management of parthenium. On this day a parthenium uprooting programme was also organized in Calvary Mission High School. During this awareness camp more than 100 students, School Principal Mrs Chanda Mashi including teachers and university staff Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Dr. Abhay Sinha, Mrs. Shalini Khajuria and Suresh Kumar actively participated The programme was ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Amit Mahajan in which he thanked all the staff members, farmers, senior citizens, youths and rural women for their contribution during the said programme.
