JAMMU: Pallanwala Volleyball Club completely dominated the courts winning title trophy of the first Late Dev Raj Khajuria Memorial Volleyball Tournament organised by Trikuta Volleyball Club Jammu under the aegis of Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir at Volleyball Courts, MA Stadium, here on Wednesday.
In the final played today, Pallanwala Club outplayed TA -157 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-21) in a close contest.
Earlier, in the semifinals, TA 157 beat 4th RAJ RAF 3-2 (25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25, 15-10) and Pallanwala defeated Trikuta Volleyball Club Jammu 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22).
Earlier, 16 teams drawn from local clubs and para-military forces took part in this Championship held on knock-out basis.
Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta, who was the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony, underlined the importance of games in general and volleyball in particular in promoting healthy atmosphere which is conducive for overall development of J&K State.
Hailing initiatives taken by Volleyball Association of J and K in organising this two-day championship, the Chief Guest exhorted the youth of the State to contribute their might in making the State prosperous in all spheres of life. He lauded the efforts of the organisers and assured every possible help to promote volleyball game/infrastructure in order to shun the evils of drug menace from the society.
The Chief Guest also gave away individual prizes, medals, team trophies and cash prizes to the tune of Rs. 10,000 to winner team and Rs. 5,000 to runner-up team.
A large number of crowd were present and witness the final match.
The Guest of Honour, Raj Daluja, Patron-in-Chief of Volleyball Association of J&K also gave away cash prizes of Rs 2000 each to Anil Singh of Pallanwala and Romi from TA-157 team for their best display in the final match.
Amongst other dignitaries present on the occasion were H.S Gill Executive Vice-President, Kuldip Magotra Chief Executive Officer, V.K. Magotra General Secretary, R.C Sharma Treasurer, Akbar Ali Office Secretary, Anchal Singh Executive Member of Volleyball Association of J&K, S.S Gill Secretary Athletic Association, Balwan Singh and Dr Brij Baloria from Physical Education Department of University of Jammu.
Organising Secretary of the Tournament, Mulkh Raj Sharma presented the vote of thanks. The matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Rajesh Virdhy, Amit Sharma, Jagjit Singh, Amarjit Singh, Satpaul and Shubam Sharma.
