As many as 84 infiltration attempts were made along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and 59 terrorists could have entered the valley since August 2019, Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. As many as 22,557 militants have been neutralised in incidents of terrorist violence by security forces till December 1 this year, 1011 terrorists were killed, 42 apprehended and 2253 pushed back from 2005 till October 21, 2019 due to efficient vigil of security forces, he said. Infiltration attempts are part of proxy war agenda of adversary to replenish the depleted terrorist strength in the valley to achieve its intention to ratchet up violence in Jammu and Kashmir. There were 1,094 terror-related incidents under the NDA regime (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017), while under the UPA Government, the figure was 1,218 from 2010 to 2013. Congress as usual has been hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for alleged “inconsistent” foreign and defence policies leading to a quantum jump in cases of terror and ceasefire violations. Targeting the prime minister on the issue of national security, the Congress demanded answers from him on questions he had posed to the then UPA government ahead of 2014 elections. Borders in Jammu and Kashmir especially in the Poonch sector of Line of Control has always remained in the target of Pakistan armed forces who see it as soft point for pushing in of terrorists from across the border. These violations led to a large number of civilian casualties too. The truce between India and Pakistan along the International Border, the Line of Control and the Actual Ground Position Line in Jammu and Kashmir came into force in November 2003. In fact the ceasefire violations are the proxy war adopted by Pakistan. Since 1999 Kargil conflict India and Pakistan have not fought each other openly and have oscillated between military tension and peace talks, but the growing number of violations since 2013 threatens to push the countries back to the dangerous posturing.
