STATE TIMES NEWS NEW DELHI: Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) recently trained 111 Young Scientists under its programme called ‘YUVIKA-2019’. In reply to a question in the Lok Sabha here on Wednesday, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh stated that this new programme was started by ISRO, just over a month ago on 13th May 2019 and has generated enthusiastic response among the youth. A total of 111 students, representing every State and Union Territory, were brought to four ISRO Centres for undergoing this exclusive 15-day long scientific programme, he stated. In the reply, the Minister also explained the primary aim of the programme, which was imparting to the youngsters, basic knowledge about Space technology, Space Science and Space applications. A special session was also arranged for interaction with imminent Space Scientists. The reply by Dr Jitendra Singh also mentioned a capacity building programme called ‘UNNATI’ started by the ISRO, for development of Nano Satellites for participants from other countries. First batch of this programme was successfully concluded on 15th March 2019 and it had benefited about 29 participants from seven countries across the world. Pertinent to mention that in last four to five years, besides launching some very historic and landmark Space Missions, the Department of Space Technology and ISRO have also diversified their activities in different areas. These included application of Space Technology for infrastructural development projects like laying down of railway tracks, manning of railway crossings, survey of roads and bridges, geo-tagging of MnREGA, etc, academic activities like in-house training programmes for young scientists and scholars from within the country and abroad, as well as engaging participation of industry to a limited extent.
