STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Reiterating its demand for releasing pending installment of 5 per cent DA, the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) President, Subash Shastri on Sunday urged the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi; Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance, Anurag Thakur to release pending installment of DA due from July 1, 2019 in favour of Central and State Government employees and pensioners. “We appeal to PM Narendra Modi, Finance Minister and Minister of State for Finance to announce release of 5 per cent DA due from July 1, 2019 in favour of employees and pensioners of Central and State Governments in view of increasing inflation and price hike of essential commodities,” Shastri said and sent memorandums to Modi, Nirmala Sitharaman and Anurag Thakur. The price index, which was 5.90 per cent in December 31, 2018 stands at 10.75 in June 30, 2019, said Shastri urging PM and others to take decision in this regard at ensuing Union Cabinet’s meeting, so that both Central/ State Government employees and pensioners could celebrate upcoming festivals with fervour and gaiety. Shastri hoped that the salaried class and pensioners are likely to receive a big bonanza ahead of coming festive season by the Central Government. “The employees are expecting a positive announcement on their long-pending demands of hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond the recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). As compensation, the much-speculated 5 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) from July 2019 should come as an early Vijayadashmi gift,” he added. In the memorandums, Shastri said that NMC will always support the Prime Minister’s every bold decision because Modi’s performance for speeding up development activities, strengthening democracy at grass root level and ensuring accountability and good governance is really appreciable. Expressing concern over undue delay in accepting and implementing the recommendations of Ashok Lavasa Committee set by the Central Government to review pay structure of pay anomalies pertaining to lower staff, Shastri urged PM Modi to intervene into the matter for settling the issue at the earliest so that benefits of recommendations of the aforesaid committee can reach the aggrieved employees.
