SPORTS REPORTER JAMMU: The NGR Club on Monday qualified for the quarterfinals of the 13th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association at GGM Science College ground, here. The NGR inflicted a humiliating 10-0 defeat on the combined team of District Football Association (DFA) Poonch. The NGR team was coached by international footballer, Amardeep Singh. Amanjot remained star striker, who netted three goals while Harpreet Singh and Paviter Singh contributed two each. Amritpal Singh, Nikhil Sambyal and Rizwan added one each to the total. In another scheduled match, Clemart Football Club defeated Churchill Brothers by five goals to one. Vivek Paul (48th and 68th) and Madhav Singh (66th and 69th) struck twice while Saksham netted the ball in the 30th minute. From Churchill Brothers, Basit reduced the margin scoring the lone goal for his side in the 64th minute. Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel including Suresh Gupta, Dheeraj Meenia, Ricky, Dil Bahadur, Rahul Sharma, Ajay Singh and Nitika. President NGR Football Club, Varinder Sharma was Chief Guest in today’s match while other prominent who witnessed the matches include Rohit Bhagat (Incharge PP Canal Road), Sbastian Saparwal, S.M. Gill (Ex. MLC), David Masih, Yusuf Don (organizing secretary), F Sotra, Narinder Gupta, Mohan Lal, Rattan Lal, K K Sharma, Sanjeev Vaid, Mohinder Kalsi and Aatish Vaid. FIXTURE: J&K SRTC shall be playing against J&K Bank Academy at 1:30 PM while Sports Saviours to meet United Punjab at 3:00 PM.
