UDHAMPUR: The members of NGO, ‘Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ organised a motivational programme on environment protection at Barrian here on Sunday during which an extensive plantation drive was carried out in the premises of local temple.
Expressing deep concern over vanishing of bowlis, the natural resources of potable water that were once considered as the identity of Udhampur, Chairman of NGO, Tariq Shah said that it is agonising that most of the bowlis out of about 100 such water resources capable of providing potable water to half of Udhampur’s population have been destroyed by the negligent attitude of National Highway Authority besides cutting of large number of trees.
He appealed to the District administration for constituting a committee to conserve such natural resources so that their clean water could be used to quench the thirst of common man.
Member of NGO, Anil Sharma said that due to the lack of care and utter negligence of the authorities during the construction of Highway, many houses besides walls of a local temple were badly damaged.
He demanded that people sitting at the helm of affairs should immediately initiate measures to rebuild the damaged edifice besides taking due care while constructing roads and passages.
Deputy Co-ordinator of NGO, Aftab Bali said that conservation of natural resources and sustainable lifestyle are the keys for survival of humans.
Tariq Shah lauded the role of Narain Singh, Om Prakash and other locals who have been working with dedication to promote environmental protection. Locals including Laxmi Devi, Shoba, Rita, Kailash Devi, Geeta, Kaka Ram, Rajesh and Shakuntla Devi besides NGO members Vijay, Sanjay, Rajeev, Aftab and Sahil were present during the programme.
