STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: In a meeting of Live and Let Live Society of India (LLLSI) held under its Chairman Romal Singh and President Santokh Siingh Komal, the participants have felt the necessity of paramount importance for launching a nationwide campaign for water harvesting. Accordingly the participants have appealed to the Union Government and Ministry of Jal Shakti in particular to take immediate steps in this direction keeping in view the scarcity of water on the earth and the underground water level going down sharply. Komal said that the human cruelty towards destroying the water bodies on the Indian soil has done the biggest damage not only to the nature but also to the humanity itself adding that these water bodies like big ponds have been encroached, filled and constructions raised thereupon due to population increase and urbanization of the areas. People in the ancient times were more wise who had been creating these big ponds, dug wells, bawlies and other bodies of the type which are no more seen now, he said. He further said that God is still kind to provide rains during monsoon but in the absence of these water bodies this rain water becomes violent and instead it being a blessing and causes destruction all over. According to him these monsoon rains shower their blessings for a period less than two months and the remaining period of ten months during the year remains dry barring negligible local rains. He also told that this damage to the nature and devastation due to floods are likely to continue to worsen the situation if not checked immediately and the humanity and other creatures on the earth will die of thirst in the years to come. Komal asserted that the present state of water on the earth warrants immediate remedial measures through water harvesting by constructing big ponds rather lake type water storing bodies at suitable places in the forest lands, Kaha charai land and State land which are available in the country in abundance. This will not only ensure availability of water over ground but will also improve the water situation below ground level, he maintained. Prominent among others present in the meeting keeping in view the social distancing include Lekh Raj Sharma Vice President, Jasmer Singh General Secretary, Mohinder Singh organizer, Gagandeep Singh Secretary and Harkeerat Kour Joint Secretary.
