STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: National Police Day, popularly known as Police Commemoration Day was observed in entire Jammu Zone, with Ceremonial Parade here at Gulshan Ground on Monday. The day is celebrated every year in memory and honour of SI Karam Singh and ten brave-hearts of CRPF (1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn) who on October 21, 1959, scarified their lives while holding the attack by PLA at Hot Spring in Ladakh, at a height of 4681 mt above sea level. Impressive functions were organised in all 10 districts of Jammu province, wherein large number of senior police officers, retired police personnel, members of martyrs’ families and civil society participated. In Jammu, the main function was conducted at Gulshan Ground Jammu where Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu Zone took the salute of Commemoration Day Parade. GOs of all Jammu based Units, apart from a large number of senior / retired police officers, media personnel and prominent citizens of Jammu also participated in the function. IGP Jammu Zone read out the names of 292 brave-martyrs of the country, including martyrs from Police Organisations and other PMF like BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NCB, NDRF and FS, CD & HG. While lauding role of brave martyrs, he said J&K Police has been rendering yeoman service towards the nation and society under most hostile, difficult and challenging circumstances at the cost of their personal safety and comfort. He prayed for peace of the departed souls besides prosperity and welfare of their families. Singh paid rich tributes to all those martyrs who laid down their lives for unity and integrity of the nation in different parts of the country during the last one year. Later, IGP Jammu Zone also interacted with NoKs of martyrs. He gave a patient hearing to grievances highlighted by NoKs of martyrs and assured full support and timely action on requests submitted by them. Earlier, all Jammu based GOs assembled at Police Martyrs Memorial at Railway Station and paid rich tributes to all martyrs. On this occasion, a blood donation camp was also organised in which many senior officers and volunteers including, members of Team Jammu donated blood. Others present on the occasion included Transport Commissioner J&K, ADGP Railways J&K, Divisional commissioner Jammu, IGP Armed Jammu, DC Jammu, DIG-DKR-Range, SSP Jammu, SSP PCR, SSP Crime, SSP Security Jammu, SSP CID SB Jammu, (Nodel officers) and Commandants of other Jammu based battalions, SSP APCR and all GOs of Jammu District, besides Ravinder Raina, State BJP President and other dignitaries.
