STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: To express resentment against installation of iron gates at entry and exit of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, a number of residents from ward Nos 1 & 2 held a protest on Thursday demanding immediate removal of aforesaid gates as such installation of iron gates would destroy original character of the structure, which is symbolic of our history and tradition.The locals vehemently objected installation of iron gates, obstructing normal movement of passers-by besides creating difficulty in normal movement of people. They intimated that the Director Heritage Complex as well as concerned Advisor have already been approached for the purpose demanding immediate removal of iron gates for redressing public grievance.Extending support to protesters, ex-MLA Jammu East, Yogesh Sawhney sought immediate action in the matter. A delegation of the residents, led by Sawhney, had already discussed the matter with Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, prior to installation of gates, but same were installed despite resistance of people. Consequently, Sawhney approached the concerned Advisor to discuss the grievances of people, who also ensured Sawhney that he would look into the matter.Speaking on the occasion, Sawhney said that people were very much against installation of iron gates, despite which same were installed, causing great hardships to people. “Public is experiencing traffic congestion problems amongst other inconveniences. Furthermore, people are afraid that such steps would destroy the original character of the ancient structure, which is symbol of our rich Dogra tradition and history,” he asserted.Those who were present on the occasion included Congress leaders Ram Sarup Baru, Raj Singh, Dhyan Singh, M L Malanger, Chander Shaker, Atul Sharma, Ram Magotra, Gurmeet Singh, Hardawinder Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, S S Slathia, Dwarka Nath, Parnav Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Sanjay, Raman Bali, Parmod Gupta, Ashok Tak, Abhay Singh, Ashok Khajuria, Abhishek Charak, Vishal Singh, Madan Singh, Pankaj Gupta, Akhil Slathia, Ashutosh Slathia, Baleshwar Singh, Ashwani Tak, Raj kumar, Lokesh Sharma, Jagdish Singh, Surdershan Singh, Tarsem and Rajeev Gupta.
