STATE TIMES NEWSVIJAYPUR: Seeking personal intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party, senior leader and former Minister Manjit Singh on Thursday appealed that the farmers in Samba district have been facing shortage of fertilizers and urea.In a statement to the press, the former Minister said that the farmers have approached him with their grievance of shortage of fertilizers and urea in Samba district especially Vijaypur. With this shortage, Manjit Singh said, the farmers will not be able to get good quality crops. He said that the farmers in this border district have also been facing shortage of canal water supply to the tail-end villages of Vijaypur.“The villagers suffer from many issues like shortage of water supply due to which they are not able to water their fields or vegetables. The unscheduled power cuts have made their life worse. “When electricity supply gets hampered, the farmers are not able to use water pumps to water their fields. On the other, the canal water does not reach the tail-end villages which have multiplied the problems with the shortage of the fertilizers,” said the former minister, Manjit Singh.Another farmer’s leader who recently joined J&K Apni Party, Mohan Singh Bhatti said that the Lt Governor needs to intervene personally so that the suffering of the farmers could be redressed.“The issues are bigger than it seems. The Government should engage a team of the agriculture department to conduct a survey and listen to the farmers and accordingly, they redress their concerns. We want to help the government, but the farmers should also be listened to,” said Bhatti.Meanwhile, over a dozen people especially youth from village Kalha joined J&K Apni Party in presence of former minister Manjit Singh.
