STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating as Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Police said on Friday. A complaint was lodged against Rakesh Singh on charges of duping Kulwant Singh of Rs 4 lakh by impersonating as RTO Jammu, the Police said. As per details, Rakesh Singh contacted the complainant on mobile and lured him for availing a discretionary discount of RTO for buying a new car. The complainant, who was planning to gift a car to his wife, fell into the trap, according to Police.
Acting on a tip-off, the accused, who was evading arrest for a month, was arrested by the crime branch.
After verifications, a case vide FIR No 42 under Sections 420 and 419 RPC was lodged against accused in Police Station, Crime Branch Jammu and investigation initiated. Accused Rakesh Singh, son of Kair Singh, resident of Dherian, Jattan Kothey, Khour is a notorious cheater. In recent past, fifteen (15) arrest warrants have been issued against him in different legal suits of cheating by different courts including Special Railway Magistrate, Sub-Judge Jammu, Special Municipal Magistrate Jammu and Sub-Judge Special Mobile Magistrate 13th FC Jammu. The accused was evading arrest since long.
During investigation, it came to light that in one of the bank accounts of Rakesh Singh, more than Rs 30 lakh was deposited within two years, the police said. All this money has either been immediately withdrawn or transferred to other accounts within few hours by the accused, the police said.
After a track of around one month, today on a tipoff from a reliable source, acting swiftly with a meticulous planning, Investigating Officer of Crime Branch arrested the conman Rakesh, who evaded all earlier warrants. Meticulously probe is also going on for collecting all relevant evidences in the case. Reportedly there are a number of complaints registered against Rakesh in different Police Stations under various sections.
