STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, R.K Mathur was the Chief Guest during ‘Spituk Gustor’ – the annual monastic festival held at Spituk Monastery, on Wednesday. Deputy Chairman LAHDC Leh Tsering Sandup, Executive Councilor for Education Konchok Stanzin, President LBA PT Kunzang, President Galdan Targyasling Cultural and Welfare Society Spituk Ven. Lobzang Angchuk, Director CIBS Leh Prof. Geshes Konchok Wangdus, Dy. Sec-Gen. ABCP Mongolia Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo, BDC Chairman Spituk Dr Skalzang Dorjey and others were also present. The Lt. Governor was given brief about the monastery, it’s head lama Skyabje Bakula Rinpoche, extraordinary contributions of 19th Skyabje Kushok Gyalras Bakula Rinpoche, and chhams – the mask performances being performed by the venerable monks during the monastic festival. The Lt. Governor also visited the Paldan-Lamo (protector deity) shrine of the monastery. It is pertinent to mention that this festival is held on the 28th and 29th of the 11th month of the Tibetan calendar every year and is celebrated since the 11th century symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The main purpose of the festival is for world peace, happiness, and welfare of all beings. Meditation and prayers are performed days prior to the festival for world peace.
