STATE TIMES NEWSJammu: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital here and took stock of facilities being provided to COVID-19 patients and others.The LG’s visit comes amid a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths due to the disease in Jammu over the past month.The region’s infection tally stands at 32,249. Out of total 1,268 COVID-19 related deaths in the union territory so far, Jammu accounts for 395.Most of the deaths in Jammu have been reported over the past month. Various political parties have expressed concern over the spike in the number of fatalities and questioned the measures taken by the administration to meet the challenge, besides the lack of facilities at the GMC.During his visit, Sinha took rounds of different medical units and enquired about the availability of necessary equipment and other facilities for patient care.Sinha also took stock of the interventions made by the hospital administration to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.Taking cognisance of the complaints being received from the general public regarding the shortage of oxygen, the LG directed the concerned officers to rationalise the resources and resolve the prevalent issues.He also said senior doctors should attend to COVID-19 patients.Sinha also visited the emergency ward, high dependency unit, among other units, before holding a meeting with senior officers.The LG was informed that the supply of oxygen has been restored and there is no shortage as on date, he said.Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 738 fresh COVID-19 cases, while 16 deaths took place in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 80,476 and the death toll to 1,268, officials said.Srinagar district reported the highest number of 183 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 91 in Jammu district, they said.“The Union Territory recorded 738 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours — with 290 in Jammu and 448 in the Kashmir Valley,” they said.There are 13,712 active coronavirus cases, while 65,496 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.Meanwhile, 16 deaths took place in the past 24 hours in J-K – eight each in Jammu and the valley – taking the death toll to 1,268, they said.According to the daily Media Bulletin, out of 80,476 positive cases, 13,712 are Active Positive, 65,496 have recovered and 1,268 have died; 395 in Jammu division and 873 in Kashmir division.The Bulletin further said that out of 17,41,300 test results available, 16,60,824 samples have been tested as negative till October 06, 2020.Till date 5,98,659 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 25,624 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 13,712 in isolation and 47,457 home surveillance. Besides, 5,10,598 persons have completed their surveillance period.Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Srinagar has 15,835 positive cases (including 183 cases reported today) with 1,748 Active Positive, 13,780 recovered (including 289 cases recovered today), 307 deaths; Baramulla has 4,640 positive cases (including 37 cases reported today) with 1,373 Active Positive, 3,142 recovered, 125 deaths; Pulwama reported 4,122 positive cases (including 55 cases reported today) with 376 active positive cases, 3,676 recovered (including 45 cases recovered today), 70 deaths; Kulgam has 2,305 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today) with 97 Active Positive, 2,165 recoveries (including 11 cases recovered today), 43 deaths; Shopian has 2,063 positive cases (including 09 cases reported today) with 158 Active Positive, 1,873 recovered (including 10 cases recovered today), 32 deaths; Anantnag district has 3,666 positive cases (including 22 cases reported today) with 467 Active Positive, 3,130 recovered (including 50 cases recovered today), 69 deaths; Budgam has 5,160 positive cases (including 46 cases reported today) with 773 Active Positive and 4,299 recovered (including 57 cases recovered today), 88 deaths; Kupwara has 3,794 positive cases (including 42 cases reported today) with 703 Active Positive, 3,022 recovered (including 52 cases recovered today), 69 deaths; Bandipora has 3,613 positive cases (including 30 cases reported today) with 425 Active Positive, 3,148 recovered (including 19 cases reported today), 40 deaths and Ganderbal has 3,029 positive cases (including 20 cases reported today) with 240 active positive cases, 2,759 recoveries (including 28 cases recovered today) and 30 deaths.Similarly, Jammu has 14,778 positive cases (including 91 cases reported today) with 2,808 active positive cases, 11,764 recoveries (including 690 cases recovered today), 206 deaths; Rajouri has 2,851 positive cases (including 27 cases reported today) with 503 active positive cases, 2,311 recovered (including 98 cases recovered today), 37 deaths; Ramban has 1,412 positive cases (including 14 cases reported today) with 135 active positive, 1,266 recoveries (including 110 cases recovered today), 11 deaths; Kathua has 2,165 positive cases (including 18 cases reported today) with 231 Active positive, 1,906 recovered (including 52 cases recovered today), 28 deaths; Udhampur has 2,416 positive cases (including 14 cases reported today) with 378 active positive cases, 2,017 recovered (including 50 cases recovered today), 21 deaths; Samba has 1,893 positive cases (including 29 cases reported today) with 550 Active Positive, 1,321 recoveries (including 30 cases recovered today), 22 deaths; Doda has 2,337 positive cases (including 26 cases reported today) with 911 active positive cases, 1,390 recoveries (including 11 cases recovered today), 36 deaths; Poonch has 1,896 positive cases (including 12 cases reported today) with 869 active positive, 1,010 recoveries (including 23 cases reported today), 17 deaths; Reasi has 1,066 positive cases (including 28 cases reported today) with 320 active positive, 740 recoveries (including 40 cases recovered today) and 06 deaths while Kishtwar has 1,435 positive cases (including 31 cases reported today) with 647 active positive cases and 777 recoveries (including 41 cases reported today) and 11 deaths.
