REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organised 11th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting here at KVK, Reasi campus under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, Prof.JP Sharma. The meeting was attended by the statutory SAC members from different departments’ viz. Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Sheep Husbandry, NABARD, J&K Bank, Social Forestry and officers of SKUAST-J.Progressive farmers from different villages also participated in the meeting. Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK Gupta warmly welcomed the chief guest and briefed the programme. Chairman of the meeting,Prof.JP Sharma stressed upon efficient marketing in the agriculture. He also emphasized on the value addition and branding of the agricultural produce. He discussed on the Integrated Farming System for the prosperity of the farmers. He also talked on the agri-entrepreneurship development among the rural youths. He also released a publication of KVK, Reasi. He appreciated the KVK, Reasi for the efforts on organic farming and lemon grass farming. He suggested the KVK scientists to disseminate the successful latest technologies to the farmers. He gave constructive suggestions to the scientists and advised them to work in close co-ordination with agriculture and allied departments.Director Res. SKUAST-J, Prof. RK Gupta recommended some new varieties of different crops. He stressed on the participatory approach in seed production. Dr.SK Gupta, Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.Dipak Kher, DPM, SKUAST-J, Dr. Jasvinder Singh Soodan of SKUAST-J, Er.Iqbal Singh and Dr.Narinder Panotra also gave constructive suggestions during the meeting. Dr. Lalit Upadhyay, Scientist KVK, Reasi conducted the proceedings of the programme.Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi presented the action taken report of the previous SAC meeting as well as progress report of the previous year and also discussed proposed action plan for the year 2020-21. He said that KVK is promoting new hybrid/high yielding/ improved varieties of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, marigold, poultry etc. in both Reasi and Udhampur districts. He gave a detail view of the vocational training programmes imparted specially for the rural youths to generate income and employment in the area. The scientist also explained the other extension activities organised by KVK, Reasi in detail. Distt. Horticulture Officer, Reasi Sandeep Kumar discussed on the quality planting material. DDM NABARD, Reasi Adarsh Gupta discussed on the projects of beekeeping and lemon grass farming. In this programme Deputy Director, Romesh Khosa, Chief Sheep Husbandry, Manager J&K Bank, Branch, Dera Baba, Baba Jatinder Pal Singh Sodhi, progressive farmer, Sunita Devi, Chief Animal Husbandry, Chief Fisheries also gave constructive suggestions. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Jagdish Kumar, Dr. Arvinder Kumar, Manohar Lal, Mohd. Iqbal and others were also present in the meeting. The meeting was ended by Dr. Sanjay Kaushal by offering the vote of thanks.
