STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Jammu Poonch Parliamentary constituency on Tuesday demanded special compensation package for paddy farmers for their destroyed crop due to rains and hail-storm in Jammu Poonch Parliamentary constituency. Jugal, raising his voice in the Lok Sabha, said that a major part of his Parliamentary Constituency situated along the border areas, is agricultural land used for growing good quality basmati rice. He said that the quality of basmati rice cultivated in Jammu region along border areas in Jammu, Bishnah, R S Pura, Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Nowshera and upto Rajouri and Poonch is of supreme quality and famous across the country. “Not only in India but it is also exported in other parts of the world. But in recent days, when basmati rice crop was cultivated, farmers faced unfavourable climatic conditions with rains and hail-storms, thereby ruining the crop. Their livelihood got spoiled due to untimely rains and hail-storm,” he said. The Member of Parliament demanded that Union Ministry should announce special relief package for basmati growing farmers, for the unfortunate loss they faced due to rains and hail-storm.
