Nawang Sonam said that the long pending demand of the Ladakh people has been fulfilled with the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A. He said it’s like a dream come true for Ladakhi people. He said that the Ladakhi people will be benefitted by this move of the Narendra Modi led NDA Government. He said earlier the funds allocated for Ladakh were misused by the successive State governments but after creation of Ladakh Union Territory, there will be 100 per cent utilisation of central funds for ensuring development of the region. He said that Ladakh being the favourite tourists’ destination will see enormous development in the coming time. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for fulfilling aspirations of Ladakhis, who always faced discrimination by successive State governments.
Zigmit Padma welcomed the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A and congratulated the people of Ladakh for getting the Union Territory status. She said that 80 per cent of Ladakhi youth including girls are studying outside the Ladakh due to lack of education and job opportunities in the region thus facing severe hardships. She hoped that after acquiring the Union Territory status, the youth of Ladakh will not have to move out as new universities and colleges will be established here and joblessness shall be tackled effectively. “Now funds coming from the Centre would be equally distributed between Jammu and Kashmir regions. Now people of Ladakh would also get their due share, which they deserve,” Padma added.
Ihargyal appreciated the move of removing the Articles 370 and 35A and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for granting Union Territory to Ladakh. He said PM Modi has invoked a new hope among the people of Ladakh by abrogating these controversial Articles from the Constitution. He said that present BJP government has in right perspective understood the feelings of the people of Ladakh which the earlier dispensations never bothered to consider. He also said that the successive governments never projected the sufferings of the people of this mountainous region before the Central Government thus forcing people to reel under deprivation and dearth of facilities. He hoped that Ladakhi people will now witness unprecedented growth and the region will get economic as well as educational boost. “Modi and Shah have created a history which will be remembered for times to come. Such step will provide a bright future to students of Ladakh,” he added.
Stanzin Lachok, Vice President All Ladakh Students Association, Jammu, said that Ladakhis were not happy with the policies of Kashmir-centric governments and never wanted to stay with Kashmir. He stated that 73 years ago All Ladakh Buddhist Association had launched an agitation demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh. He said that entire Ladakh is happy with the decision of the BJP government on granting UT status. Expressing contentment, he said that removal of the contentious Articles 370 and 35A will pave way for the people of this region to enjoy all the rights which they were denied earlier.
Gurmet, Joint Secretary Ladakh Students Association, hailed the decision of BJP led government at the Centre for abrogating the Articles 370 and 35A from the J&K. He said that the demand of UT was pending for the last 70 years which has been fulfilled only after the bold and courageous decision of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He said that dearth of educational institutions in Ladakh forced local youth to migrate to the other parts of the country for pursuing studies thereby making education a costly affair. “After getting Union Territory status, the Ladakhis will save their hard-earned money and surely the government will come up with more policies and welfare schemes to facilitate people of Ladakh”, he maintained.
