STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages paid tributes to late Prof Sewa Singh, an eminent Punjabi, Urdu and English writer, remembering his contribution in the field of literature, in a programme held here on Tuesday. On the occasion, Dr Baljeet Kaur, HoD, Punjabi, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest whereas the function was presided over by Ajit Singh Mastana, a well known Punjabi writer from Kashmir. Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages said that Prof Sewa Singh had contributed more than 24 books in Punjabi, Urdu and English languages on various subjects including History of Punjabi in Jammu & Kashmir. Chanpreet Kaur and Harsimran Singh, scholars at University of Jammu presented one each paper on the life and contribution of Prof Sewa Singh, reflecting on his thought process, expression and literary developments in his life and literary works. Ajit Singh Mastana paid rich tributes to Prof Sewa Singh and expressed his views on the literary works of Prof Sewa Singh who was torch bearer of various literary movements. Dr Baljit Kaur appreciated the efforts of J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages for organizing a seminar dedicated to Prof. Sewa Singh. Prof Sewa Singh had been decorated with many honours and awards including Robe of Honour in 1974 and State Award in 2010 by J&K State Government, Best Book Award by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Life Achievement Award by Sikh Youth Foundation and others. He had been one of the founders of JK Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Srinagar and had been the President of the Sabha. Proceedings of the function were conducted by Gurpreet Kaur, Punjabi Scholar at University of Jammu and Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Sheeraza Punjabi extended vote of thanks. Among others were presented include Jagdeep Singh, Dr Harbhajan Singh, Dr Baljit Raina, Dr Jatindra Udhampuri, Amar Singh Kuka, Deedar Singh, Manjit Singh Kamra, Balwinder Singh, Devinder Singh Vishavnagrik, Harjit Singh, Mehul Abrol, Rishika Tratha, Neeru Abrol, Hardeep Singh Deep, Anil Chopra, Dr Pritam Singh, Ichhupal, Dr Rattan Basotra, students, scholars of PG Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu and family of Prof Sewa Singh.
