STATE TIMES NEWSSRINAGAR: Six corona virus-related fatalities were reported in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the death toll to 1,372, while 610 fresh cases pushed the infection tally in the Union Territory to 87,364, officials said.Out of the 610 new cases, 247 were reported from Jammu and 363 from the Kashmir Valley, they said.Srinagar district reported the highest number of 129 new cases, followed by 116 in Jammu district, the officials said.
New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 caseload went past 74 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 65 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 87.78 per cent, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.The coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,12,998 with the virus claiming 837 lives in a day, while the infection tally mounted to 74,32,680 with 62,212 new cases being reported, the data updated at 8 am showed.The active cases of coronavirus infection dropped below eight lakh for the first time in one-and-half months, the ministry said.India stood second behind the US in terms of active cases of COVID-19 as well total caseload, according to Worldometer.It is in the number one position in terms of the number of recovered cases while it is in the third spot in terms of fatalities globally after the US and Brazil.For nine days in a row the active cases remained below nine lakh.There are 7,95,087 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 10.70 per cent of the total caseload, while the recoveries have surged to 65,24,595, according to the data.The COVID-19 case fatality rate due COVID-19 was recorded at 1.52 per cent. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5 . It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 9,32,54,017 samples have been tested up to October 16 with 9,99,090 samples being tested on Friday.The 837 new fatalities include 306 from Maharashtra, 73 from Karnataka, 61 from West Bengal, 57 from Tamil Nadu, 46 from Uttar Pradesh and 40 from Chhattisgarh.The total 1,12,998 deaths reported so far in the country include 41,502 from Maharashtra, followed by 10,529 from Tamil Nadu, 10,356 from Karnataka, 6,589 from Uttar Pradesh, 6,382 from Andhra Pradesh, 5,946 from Delhi, 5,931 from West Bengal, 3,980 from Punjab and 3,617 from Gujarat.The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
There are 8,704 active cases, while 77,288 patients have recovered from the infection so far, they said.Meanwhile, six fatalities took place in the past 24 hours in J-K — four in Jammu region and two in the Valley — taking the death toll to 1,372, the officials said.According to the daily Media Bulletin. out of 87,364 positive cases, 8,704 are Active Positive, 77,288 have recovered and 1,372 have died; 454 in Jammu division and 918 in Kashmir division.The Bulletin further said that out of 19,78,626 test results available, 18,91,262 samples have been tested as negative till October 17, 2020.Till date 6,26,061 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 25,203 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 8,704 in isolation and 50,263 in home surveillance. Besides, 540519 persons have completed their surveillance period.Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Srinagar has 17,530 positive cases (including 129 cases reported today) with 1806 Active Positive, 15,396 recovered (including 143 cases recovered today), 328 deaths; Baramulla has 5,163 positive cases (including 58 cases reported today) with 1,264 Active Positive, 3764 recovered (including 70 cases recovered today), 135 deaths; Pulwama reported 4,398 positive cases (including 28 cases reported today) with 284 active positive cases, 4,038 recovered (including 19 cases recovered today), 76 deaths; Kulgam has 2,388 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today) with 91 Active Positive, 2,254 recoveries (including 10 cases recovered today), 43 deaths; Shopian has 2,118 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today) with 89 Active Positive, 1996 recovered (including 14 cases recovered today), 33 deaths; Anantnag district has 3,924 positive cases (including 19 cases reported today) with 313 Active Positive, 3,541 recovered (including 25 cases recovered today), 70 deaths; Budgam has 5,614 positive cases (including 32 cases reported today) with 458 Active Positive and 5066 recovered (including 74 cases recovered today), 90 deaths; Kupwara has 4,044 positive cases (including 25 cases reported today) with 284 Active Positive, 3,689 recovered (including 05 cases recovered today), 71 deaths; Bandipora has 3,831 positive cases (including 36 cases reported today) with 301 Active Positive, 3,488 recovered (including 26 cases reported today), 42 deaths and Ganderbal has 3,301 positive cases (including 24 cases reported today) with 276 active positive cases, 2,995 recoveries (including 18 cases recovered today) and 30 deaths.Similarly, Jammu has 15,987 positive cases (including 116 cases reported today) with 1,150 active positive cases, 14,601 recoveries (including 150 cases recovered today), 236 deaths; Rajouri has 3,111 positive cases (including 16 cases reported today) with 392 active positive cases, 2,674 recovered (including 36 cases recovered today), 45 deaths; Ramban has 1,504 positive cases (including 19 cases reported today) with 70 active positive, 1,423 recoveries (including 01 case recovered today), 11 deaths; Kathua has 2,326 positive cases (including 08 cases reported today) with 62 Active positive, 2,235 recovered (including 08 cases recovered today), 29 deaths; Udhampur has 2561 positive cases (including 10 cases reported today) with 146 active positive cases, 2,390 recovered (including 15 cases recovered today), 25 deaths; Samba has 2,061 positive cases (including 08 cases reported today) with 425 Active Positive, 1,612 recoveries, 24 deaths; Doda has 2,490 positive cases (including 17 cases reported today) with 289 active positive cases, 2,160 recoveries (including 45 cases recovered today), 41 deaths; Poonch has 2,125 positive cases (including 11 cases reported today) with 613 active positive, 1,490 recoveries (including 73 cases reported today), 22 deaths; Reasi has 1,190 positive cases (including 04 cases reported today), with 175 active positive, 1,008 recoveries (including 45 cases recovered today) and 07 deaths while Kishtwar has 1,698 positive cases (including 38 cases reported today), with 216 active positive cases and 1,468 recoveries (including 32 cases reported today) and 14 deaths.According to the bulletin, of the total 87,364 positive cases in J&K 9,374 have been reported as travelers while 77,990 as others.
