Prof. (Dr) Vijay Dev Singh, Ex-Dir Distance Education, JU: “Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority ex-state, which was ruled efficiently by Maharaja Hari Singh whose rule is etched in the history as the best reformer King’s pro-people rule.J&K has been ruled by Kashmiri-centric rulers, mostly from the Valley for over 70 years. Now is the time for Jammu Chief Minister– Hindu or Muslim but it must be a Jammu Chief Minister.Whoever may be a Jammu Chief Minister, but he must be highly educated, people friendly, development oriented, honest, futuristic , approachable and above politics of region. He should be a true democrat.I feel the two people who fit the definition are, Dr. Karan Singh and Devender Singh Rana. Dr Karan Singh, being senior in age as also un-approachable, I feel Devender Singh Rana is the right choice for Jammu Chief Minister of J&K.
Tarun Uppal, Chairperson Nirbhay Bharat Foundation: Due to Kashmir-centric policies, the people of J&K have suffered a lot for the over seven decades. The Centre and the governments in the former state, did not give dispense justice to the people even after the abrogation of Article 370.It is really a matter of concern as the people are tired of experiments of the Central Government.I don’t think it is a fight between Hindu and Muslim but it is a matter of justice and sentiments as the leaders of Kashmir have always played foul politics and be fooled the people of J&K.I personally feel that the CM should be a new face and not any opportunist. And I appeal to the people of the Union Territory to choose a right candidate irrespective of caste, creed, colour or political party. The future of the UT is in the hands of voters.
Jeni Leena John, Social Activist: After the instrument of accession, when J&K become an integral part of India, Kashmir got its political strength with Sheikh Abdullah becoming the first Prime Minister as there was no strong political entity in Jammu. Still, Jammu possesses best leadership qualities but ironically the people do not talk about Dogras, which include all religions that speak Dogri.Dogra community does not mean any particular religion and it is a regional identity. Now, according to my view, J&K must have a Dogra Chief Minister. Maharaja Hari Singh, a Dogra ruler, once quoted, “I have no religion, my religion is justice.” So CM from Jammu must possess visionary quality, strong leadership, ability to take bold decisions and work for the welfare of all without discrimination. If I talk about my opinion then I feel we have one such dynamic leader in J&K, who always spoke and stood for the Union Territory. He is Devender Singh Rana, Provincial President National Conference.
Former MLC Vikram Randhawa: “It has been a long pending demand of the Jammuites to have a Chief Minister from Hindu community. But due to the dominance of Kashmir-centric politics, it never was possible. The arithmetic of 46/37 was the main hurdle behind this. Now with the hope of delimitation on cards, it is expected that Jammu will get its due share and the balance of power will definitely make the way for a Hindu Chief Minister for J&K UT.Jammuties are well aware of the fact that only BJP can provide a man of huge vision and wide mindset of development as a Hindu Chief Minister.
