Most of the so-called intellectuals and the self-styled conscience keepers have always been shy about issues pertaining to Hindus. When a Muslim or any other non-Hindu is appointed to a constitutional position in India, it becomes a talking point. Such a position held especially by a Muslim is showcase as India’s tryst with secularism. They keep little difference between appeasement and secularism. This syndrome has harmed the nation most. And, in Jammu and Kashmir, appeasement has remained order of the day. Therefore, talking about Hindu to be a Chief Minister of the Union Territory is seen as a myopic political approach to the issues pertaining to the nation.
Dr (Prof) Satya Dev Gupta former HoD Anesthesia GMC Jammu said, “Our country is secular. This is because of the majority community, say Hindus. There is no such example like this across the world. We had lots of Muslims and other non Hindus at various important places. If you talk about Chief Ministers in the provinces with majority Hindus, you will find examples of it. Anwra Temur in Assam, in Bihar Abd Gafoor, Rajasthan, Barkatullah Khan, Maharashtra AR Antoly, Kerala Mohd Koya, Puducheri Farooq and what not. The major portfolio of education at D Muslims. All were respected and honoured. Now in the newly carved UT of Jammu and Kashmir where more than 30 percent are non Muslims why can’t a Hindu Chief Minister be elected? Some people may always say “being a highly sensitive UT we should have Muslim Chief Minister”. Gone are the days where such nations were admired and given a lot of weight-age. Lot of water has flown in Indus, Jhelam, and Chenab. Old ideas are rotten and have no value. We have to leave all those valueless narratives and forge ahead. YES, Hindu Chief minister in Muslim majority UT should always be welcomed.
S. Harasis Singh, Secretary Oil and LPG Trade Union, Jammu: For over 70 years since Jammu and Kashmir adopted the democratic and constitutional principle of electing the people’s representatives deliberate attempts have been made by the Kashmir centric leaders and their apologists sitting in New Delhi to deny people of Jammu their due rights on the name of secularism. Their agenda was to deprive the people of Jammu politically. After Sikh and Dogra rulers, the Hindu community are waiting to see someone from the community to reach the top seat but their dreams are being shattered. It is high time that the wrongs patronised by New Delhi must be undone and a Hindu be elected as next Chief Minister of the UT.
Atul Sharma, Chairman Jammu Kashmir Brahman Sabha: ” The erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir has witnessed many ups and downs on various fronts and it was ruled by many Kashmir centric leaders for the last about seven decades. Now it is time to give a chance to the younger generation and the political leaders, especially from Jammu region to run the affairs of Union Territory as Chief Minister. We have seen many elderly leaders like Abdullahs and Muftis who ruled but nothing changed in Jammu. As per my assessment, Sunil Sharma, former BJP Minister from Kishtwar district is a young and dynamic leader who has the ability to lead the UT as CM. He has experience of working at grassroot level and is liked by masses. He also played a vital role in uniting people when terrorism was at its peak in both Doda and Kishtwar districts.
