STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: Jasvinder Pal Singh has been declared qualified for the award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science and Engineering by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. He worked on the topic “Multi-Gait Occlusion Reconstruction and Identification using Hybrid-NN”, under the supervision of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Director IIITDM, Jabalpur, Co-supervision of Dr. Sakshi Arora, Assistant Professor, School of Computer Science and Engineering and Dr. Uday Pratap Singh, Associate Professor & Head, School of Mathematics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. In real-time scenarios reconstruction and recognition of occlusion data points is a challenging issue in multi-gait. The objective of this research work is to propose a method in reconstructing occluded regions and identification of human beings with high rate of accuracy. The proposed research work is suitable for deployment in surveillance monitoring system, particularly in crowded areas like railway/ metro stations, airport and malls etc., where it is particular difficult to identify the individuals. Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Padmashree, Prof. Ravinder Kumar Sinha, chaired the Committee and congratulate the candidate. Honorable Vice Chancellor also appreciated the topic of the thesis as being a novel idea in biometric research which can further be strengthened by including non-conventional factors such as the emotional state of the subject and its effect on the subject gait. The Committee members and others were present during the presentation such as: Prof. E. Muthuswamy, (Dean, Faculty of Engineering); Dr. K R Jha (Head, SoECE), Dr. Uday Pratap Singh (Head, School of Mathematics), Dr. P K Jena etc. and faculty members from other Schools of the University, and research Scholars. The external examiner attended the Viva through Online Mode.
